Inner Monologue

In this rough cut of the phone call from Rory's point of view I have used elements of cinematography and sound to emphasise the use of the conventions of film noir in my film. The last shot of Rory shows a zoom out as Rory speaks through the use of an inner monologue. Inner Monologues are used in film noir to give the audience a form of dramatic irony, the audience will know something which characters in the play do not know themselves.

Some good Film noir examples of inner monologue are shown here, to demonstrate how effective they can be and to show the effect I am looking for:

B'rief Encounter' 1945 David Lean

'Saturday Night and Sunday morning' 1960 Karel Reisz

'Psycho' 1960 Alfred Hitchcock

Music for my short film

I have been researching some backing music for my short film. The music needs to play either separately  or continuously throughout the entire sequence including the 3 major scenes, opening and closing credit sequences.
I have been looking firmly on Shostakovitch's work especially his fifth symphony, all four movements have interested me, especially the first movement - 'Moderato' and the third 'Largo'

I like these pieces because of their dramatic and harsh tones and I believe that they might add very useful dramatic tones to my film.

New scene with subtitles

This is the final scene of my short film but with added subtitles so that the actors doing the voice over can read the screen and see the exact words the actor on screen is saying and they can read and add the words.

Film Noir codes and conventions

This is a slideshow I found on the internet (slideshare.net) and I have found it to be very helpful when considering the codes and conventions of film noir and introducing the techniques that are used into my film.

ROUGHS

This is a rough, of the phone call scene from Rory's point of view, of my creative project, The only editing effect added to the shots, after they where cut and placed together, was the process of changing them to black and white and adding a black screen between shots to symbolize where the shots from the other side of the phone call will be placed.

This is a rough of the final scene of my creative project, The only editing effect added to the shots, after they where cut and placed together, was the process of changing them to black and white and a slight blurring effect on one of the actors faces in a particular shot as the actor was looking at the camera. The sound was not enabled in this scene and I will use voice overs to dub in the dialogue.
